Apple crumble


You cant beat the traditional apple crumble especially on a cold night. To top it off, serve with icecream or whipped cream. This will sweeten your evenings.

Ingredients - filling

  • 6 large apples peeled, and sliced into large chungs
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Ingrediends - crust

  • 115 gm butter, soft
  • 2 tablepsoons white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup custard powder

Ingredients - Crumble

  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 3/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 1/4 cup plain flour
  • 1/3 cup desiccated coocnut
  • 1/3 cup rolled oats

Apple crumble Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 190 degrees.
  2. Add apples to a pot and fill with water just enough to cover the apples. Cook for 15 minutes or until soft.
  3. Drain the apples sprinkle sugar and cinnamon over the apples. Set aside.
  4. For the crust in a mixing bowl hand mix the butter, white sugar and egg until fluffy.  
  5. In a separate mixing bowl mix the flour, baking powder and custard powder together. Mix into the butter mix.
  6. Press mixture into a pie tin or 22cm spring form pan and up the sides. Place in the oven to bake for 15-20 minutes. Remove from oven and pour the apples covering the base.
  7. Meanwhile for the crumble mix all the ingredients together using your hands until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  8. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and serve hot with icecream or fresh whipped cream.
